Public Speech: Soul Train

August 17, 1970 Soul Train’s pilot episode was premiered on WCIU-TV , a local Chicago TV station , Don Cornelius the creator/host, embarked on a new version of American bandstand featuring the sounds and dance moves of black Americans. The first season aired on Saturday October 2,1971 on over 24 local stations out side Chicago and 7 major cities. The first season consisted of 30 episodes and many musical acts such as Gladys Knight & the Pips, Al Green and Curtis Mayfield. The shows popularity grew due to the young talented dancers from the poor Chicago area who were featured on the show.  The show was growing so fast it packed up and moved from Chicago to L.A, the leading town for motion picture and/ television. When in L.A the second season aired on national television to over 50 major cities across the U.S. Don Cornelius took a gamble when moving to L.A well he hit the jackpot
Soul train became the longest running show with 37 seasons and over 1,100 episodes. According to Berry Gordy – Founder of Motown said
“Don was a pioneer, the first to present Soul music to the masses via television.  His Soul Train show was an important and timely vehicle that showcased Black talent and their new releases to the public. From his unique Soul Train dances to his brilliant commentary, there are not enough adjectives to describe how important his role was to our society, even though it was targeted to blacks, it was for everybody.
Besides the grate success of the soul train era, now I want to talk about the impact this show had by being the first show made for African Americans. Before soul train there was not lot of black faces in the media if there was any it was most likely talking down on. Soul Train gave the black community a show to promote black folks dancing, singing and having fun with style, such as Afros, Dashiki, Bell Bottoms, brads and Medallions. When you tune in every Saturday evening you will watch 60 non-stop minutes of soul. With in the 60 min you will hear the sounds of the latest black artiest performing there latest hits live. In the 70’s black music was on the rise. Due to the culture battle across America it was hard for artiest to get exposure. It all changed when soul train aired giving black arties a chance to be on national television with out the culture boundaries of the 70’s stopping them. According to Berry Gordy, Soul Train was made the unofficial, official stamp of the industry.  He said “You had to go on Soul Train if you wanted to make it in the business.” The music was the driving force of the show and with new talent performing each week made soul train on the right track to success.
I can talk forever about the show and all of the musical acts that perform but I am here today to explain what major importance this show had for African American. (First I want to talk about the dancers)

Soul train had more then just hip people that can dance. The talent did not come from dance schools/studios but it came from the streets . They went around to poor neighborhood rech centers looking for young talented kids who can dance. Soul train would not have soul if it weren’t for the kids, they made the show by taking the latest dance movies from the streets and making it mainstream. They were the real celebrities of the show. When people tuned in every Saturday you will learn the latest fashion and dance moves. Each week it was something new, new style new music new moves, new dancers, and most of all a new way African Americans can be proud of there culture through Soul train. The dancers had such an impact that the fan idol them they where the first true black television star.
Black culture was a underground culture in the 60’s. For an average American to find out about their culture they had to walking in the streets of Harlem, but most of them were problem to scared.
Soul train in the70’s changes that by expressing black culture on national television. The show gave African Americans something to be proud of; this was there show and their time to shine. Music was a big part of show and they did not only have the hippest artist but they were all African American. Stevie Wonder, James Brown, The Temptation, Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklyn. The list goes on and on. From on stage to on the dance floor they all had a major thing in common witch was they all were black and they were on national television expressing their culture through the power of soul.
When the success of the show grew it also changed behind the scene. For the first time African American was working on the set of a show as camera crew, stage crew and show producers. Soul train was an unstoppable force when it came to African American and it all happened due to One man, Don Cornelius. After 3 seasons DON was the most influential black man in media. He was the first black lead executive to own the rights to the show. Beside creating one of the most successful shows of all time and creating the first show made for African Americans, he capitalized on every opportunity he had to help the show and most of all help a fellow brother out. The show had the first black advertisement in media. Johnson Product Company, the creators of Afro Seen, aired there commercial during the show for the first time. This was un heard of at the time but Johnson product company increased there profit due to the majority of the people who use the product are watching soul train. Afro Seen then became the show lead sponsor. Soul train was unstoppable. Season after season it was something new and most of all it promoting black culture in the media for the first time.
We all know what hard time they went through with the civil rights movement in the 60’s and in the 70’s they were still fighting for there freedom. Jessie Jackson who was a civil right activist was on the show talking about the current issues of the time. Soul train was viewed by over 4 million people. Soul train was not only just a show for music and dancing but it kept you up to date on current issues.
In the end soul train was not only important to African American it gave them something of there own, there own show, there own style, there own dance moves. The minute soul train went national it was the start of a new beginning for African American. For the first time 4million viewers can experience the joys of black culture on tv. Season after season it just grew and grew and the when the times change the soul did not stop. It finally stopped in 2006. But soul train started a new wave of black culture in media. The Jefferson, the Cosby show, Stamford and son ,MTV yo rap, and BET network all owe its success to soul train by paving the way of black culture in media.

Debate: This House Believes That Hip - Hop and Rap has Negative Impacts on Society

  • Summery
During the Debate my partner Joe and I were on the house side arguing that Hip - Hop and Rap has negative impacts on society. Before the big day me and Joe took a couple of days to research this topic and mainly listen to present day Hip Hop and Rap songs. During research we learn a lot and we found out that there is a lot of major issues to talk about during our debater. The three major issues of modern day Hip - Hop and Rap is how it degrades women, promotes drugs and violence through its lyrics and how it is damaging the younger generation.

- Degrading Women

In my speech i talking about how in todays world of Hip - Hop women are know as big booty hoes and bitches. then i when it to how that is wrong and that no one as the right to degrade women. I ended with saying.

Todd Anthony Shaw also know as (Too $hort) who sold over 11 million albums can say this in his song  “Call Her A Bitch”

“I said ‘Bitch, why you such a stupid hoe’ You lil’ bitch, you never could fuck with this. And every bitch that don’t like it, she can suck my dick.” But  CBS fired radio host Don Imus over his remarks about the Rutgers women's basketball team for calling them Nappy Headed hoes and jjiiaboos

- What the Lyrics Promotes

Examples i used
Ludacris - Cry Babies (Oh No)

"I caught him with a blow to the chest
My hollow put a hole in his vest
I'm bout to send two to his dome
Cry babies go home!"

No Tears - Scarface
"Now the funeral is over and all the tears are dried up
Niggas hangin deep on the cut gettin fired up
Lookin for the nigga who pulled his pistol on my homie"
D-12 - Purple Pills
"I take a couple uppers
I down a couple downers
But nothing compares
To these blue and yellow purple pills
I been to mushroom mountain
Once or twice but who's countin'
But nothing compares
To these blue and yellow purple pills"

Yet, wherever one turns on these songs people enjoy what they hear and usually play the song over and over. What people don’t realize within those three songs they are promoting guns, killing niggers and taking pills. Just picture children of today listening to these songs day after day. Teenagers are young adults who are not yet mature to realize what true harm this genre of music is doing to them. Hip hop is toxic to theses kids by promoting the evils in society though the power of music. We just saw three examples of the what the song promotes thought there lyrics and yet each song was on the billboard top 100 charts

- Damaging the Younger Generatio

Growing up where taught that wrong is bad and thugs are dangerous people and women are equal to man. It has all change due to the major influences Hip hop has on the younger generation.Music is prominent in our lives. Teenagers spend between four and five hours a day listening to music and watching music videos. Kids listen to music everywhere these days from in their car to social gatherings. Music is everywhere.
Kids have young hip-hop stars and rappers who they look up to who, drive fast cars, wear expensive jewelry, and date beautiful women.
They speak of gang life, life in the ghetto, gunfights, drug use, and they degrade women.

In the end the power of music and the toxicity of Hip - Hop and Rap are killing out younger generation.   As a music industry major i love music and i don't want to get ride of Hip Hop but i just don't get why they have to make music promoting the evils of our society.

  • Critique

When it came to the speech Joe, started off with the opening statement then i said my statement second. i thought or opening speeches were strong and to the point. in the future we could use stronger words in the opening speeches.
My favorite part of the debate was the Q & A. This is where we got to attack the other side with questions. First the moderator asked each side a few questions and then both sides were both attacking each other with many different questions. After getting attacked from the other side the audience had a chance to say a few questions. In the end i thought we held our ground with the different questions we were asked.
In the future i would try to do a little more research on question they might ask the house. If they hit us with a question then we would have no problem on responding back.
When it came to my partner Joe i though we worked well together. I would have no problem working with him in the future. If we had the chance now we know what it is like to be part of real debate.

My Biography

Hello my name is Tyler James D’Errico… with a Capital E. I was born on March 10 1993 on Long island. …. Yes Long island home of some of the best pizza and bagels around. As I reach my 20th birthday I am currently a sophomore at SUNY Oneonta and after 2 more years I will be entering in to the real world ready to start my career in the music industry. Before I got here I want to talk about my last 20 years of my life all 7,355 days

Day one,  I was born at 4:30am on at north shore LIJ during an intense snowstorm. My mom said when I was delivered I was born with spiky red hair

Day two, I was two days old, all ready to go home but I couldn’t due to the snowstorm I was stuck in the hospital with the other annoying crying babies watching fresh prince of bell air in the nursery.

Skipping a few years now, I want to talk about the three main Chapters of my life that molded me in to the fine gentlemen I am today.

Chapter 1 family
My 3 first words that came out of my mouth were… moma ……dad…lynz short for my sister Lyndsey. From that point on they meant everything to me. My mom came from a small Jewish family and grew up in Plainview where we live today and my father came from a large Italian family that grew up in Rockfull center. My sister is 2 years older then me and a senior at SUNY Plattsburg. Growing up I got the best of both worlds from ordering Chinese food and every Sunday with my mom side. To celebration a big Italian Christmas with my dad side. Besides all the holidays I celebrated and presents I got. My family supported my every step of the way. From my first day of school to teaching my how to drive a car.

Chapter 2 middle school
From growing up in a Jewish town Mattlin Middle school was the best time to be a kid. My friends and I favorite time of the day was Lunch and Recess. When it came to lunch time we would all would gather around the table and talk about the latest’s south park episode and trade our food like we were buying and selling stocks. Then it was recess, I time where we played every sport I could imagine. The rest of middle school was torture, I was the type of kid who instead of do homework would watch TV or go bike riding with my friends. Well that did not work out in 7th and 8th grade I was getting poor grades and everyone was worried for me. Before I realized I had 3 more days till I start high school

Chapter 3 High School
It was like walking in to a Jungle. From crazy teachers and a lot weird people. This could have been the downfall of me but instead high school was the greatest 4 years of my life. Unlike middle school I was not I kid anymore I was a young adult who took on many responsibilities such as running track for 4 years and involved in many after school activities. In high school I started to look for employment to make money. After my first job as a camp counselor in 9th grade, I acquired many different jobs from working at a country club to working in a beer distributor. Besides having a great time from school or making money at work my parents were impressed due to the major improvements in my academics.

High School was not always smooth; due to our generations culture has a major impact on people such as drugs, Facebook, or even Justin bieber

Thank god I was not big on the latest drama what on Facebook or what was the latest Justin bieber song. High school allowed me to find my own nitch who where people who appreciate cars and music. We didn’t really care much about other people’s opinion of us. Once I found my group the rest of high school was amazing from going to many concert and illegal street races. Even thought we almost had a few run it with the law it was all worth it in the end.

The 4 years of high school taught me many skills that made me able to move on to where I am today at SUNY Oneonta.

To sum up my life goes like this

I was born, with spiky red hair
I had an amazing chilled hood
I dramatically changed, for the better
And her I am today almost turning 20

In words of Jeremy Clarkson,

Some say he is the happiest kid I know.
All I know him as

 TYLER D’ERRICO

Extra
After hearing my biography he is a break down of some of my interest I have both academic and non academic. Currently I am a music industry major hoping to get a job in the field in concert producing and marketing. I have a strong interest in those field those due to every since I saw my first rock concert witch was The Who from that point on I wanted to be the one traveling on the road with the band and setting up and promoting them along the way. Besides music I enjoy watching sport and paying them with my friends. My favorite is roller hockey.
As a music industry major I am required to take Communication 100 as a general educations class. When hearing about the course requirement I found out that we are going to do a lot of public speaking and a debate. I hope to get out of this class is to improve on my speaking and to build up my confidence in speaking. I want to learn about how to execute them and what each side has to do to win the debate.
When it comes to the public speech I would want to due it on how technology changes the music industry and technology is also destroying the industry.
When it come to the debate I don’t know what topic to due it on due to I never did one. As a man who loved sports I like to win and when it comes to the debate I want to win and what ever I can do to win I want to be part of that side.

CARRIER

·      Introductory

On May 7, 2005 the U.S.S Nimitz aircraft carrier left Coronado California heading towards the Persian Gulf ready for Operation Iraqi Freedom. The next seven months 0ver 5,000 will be living on board the ship ready to serve their duty and mainly to serve their country during the time of war. During war an Aircraft carrier is like a floating military base ready at a moments notice to drop bombs and carry out any mission. The carrier has up to 70 fighter jets ready to be launched 24/7 ready to carry out there mission. The PBS documentary Carrier film over 1,600 hours during their 7 months on bored the ship. In 2008 they released Carrier as an 10 part series to describe in depth what the experience is like to be on bored the U.S.S Nimitz.  With in the series you get a first hand experience to see life on bored an aircraft carrier during deployment at sea. During there 7 months at sea they stop many different ports around the world both getting to experience other nations but mainly to spend time off the ship.

·      Geography

The mission of the United States Navy is to protect and defend the right of the United States and our allies to move freely on the oceans and to protect our country against her enemies. The world is mostly ocean, making most of the world there playground to play and sail in. During there 7 months at sea they make nine different stop around the world. May 7, 2005 departs form Coronado California

1.     May 7, 2005 departs from Coronado California
2.     May 18, 2005 arrives in Peal Harbor
3.     June 3, 2005 arrives in Hong Kong
4.     June 18, 2005 arrives in Guam
5.     June 30, 2005 arrives in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
6.     August 9, 2005 arrives in Bahrain and the Persian Gulf
7.     October 7, 2005 arrives in Perth Australia
8.     October 30, 2005 arrives in Peal Harbor
9.     November 8, 2005 returns to Coronado California

When dock at a port the members of the crew are allowed to explore each city they are docked in. When they head in to any port they have a tradition when they make the crew where there uniforms and stand around the edge of the ship. When they make there first stop in Peal Harbor many members of the ship head on over to the peal harbor memorial. When they arrive in Hong Kong or any port they are warned that they are in a different country and you have to act accordingly to their laws and mainly your part of the U.S Navy and you have to act like a sailor and don’t drink like one. As many of them due take the warring serious in the other hand many go strait to the bar and drink and drink. Don’t forget most of the crewmembers are between the age of 19 and 24 (young kids) thinking that they are unstoppable. Two days later they are ready to head towards Guam. Within their time in Hong Kong few members of the crew got arrested mostly for being drunk and in one case one member raped another crewmember. When it comes to the navy they don’t let shit fly by, each person will have to suffer consequences. This includes months with out pay, not allowed to leave the ship wile at port and wile the remainder of there time on the ship they would have to do extra chores. With in the 7 months every time they leave port many crew members got in trouble with the law or got too drunk and each of them will be charged and suffer severe consequences for there action. This shows not everything is going to be perfect and how crime does happen on bored an aircraft carrier.

·      Demography

Lets play a little numbers game. The U.S.S Nimitz have over 5,000 crew member, The Food Services Department provides 18,000-20,000 meals a day, witch they can stock at least 70 days of refrigerated and dry storage goods.  Don’t forget all your garbage has to go somewhere they recycle and through out thousands of pounds a waist each day for 7 months. Next, just say you get sick The Nimitz also features a 53-bed hospital ward that includes a three bed ICU, and acts as the hospital ship for the entire Nimitz battle group. Six doctors work around the clock including a general surgeon, provide everything from surgery to hydro-therapy. Don’t forget the crew need clean teeth so they also have five dentists. Think of the Nimitz like a small city , each city has a barber but the one barber shop on bored trims over 1,500 heads each week. The Post Office processes more than one million pounds of mail each year. There are three chaplains conduct daily religious services for the members of the crew.
During the 7 months at sea the Nimitz never stops and what makes this from happening in the crew that is the heart and soul of the ship. Every one of the 5,000 plus members each has a vital role in making the ship work days on end. From the Capitan to the seamen.
·      Economics

Lets start off each carrier cost up to 4 billion dollars. Each ships carries up to 70 fighter jets, witch cost up to 200 million. Fighter jets are just heavy metal paperweights would out fuel. Even though the carrier is run on nuclear power the fighter jets require jet fuel and a lot of it. Don’t forget about the crew members they need to eat 3 meals a day. The amount of food they go though during a 7 months of deployment is unbelievable. If you’re in the navy just wish you’re not part of the food service. Try making 3 meals a day for thousands of people.

·      Politics

When on the Nimitz it feels like its own little country with poor and rich people. What makes you rich or poor all depends on your rank. Rank is everything when it comes to the navy and the higher rank you have the more power you have. Some examples, if you’re seamen and you are waiting to see the dentist for a tooth pain but along comes a petty officer he would get treatment due to his higher rank. Another example is within the ship they have two different mess halls one for the Officers and one for the rest of the crew. Lets take a guess witch one has leather chairs and better food, the Officers.
Wile on the Nimitz you a must obey the rules of the ship. When it comes to the Navy rules, it is everything and it gives structure to the crew. Within the 5,000-crew members many of them get in to trouble by not following the rules. An example is when the Master chief is walking around and sees you slack off or are not during what you should be doing you will get in trouble. A more serious example is one crewmember during the night shift took off their jacket and through it in to the sea making it look like she went over bored. For this crewmember they were charge and was given months with out pay. When on the Nimitz if you do a crime you would be charged with crime.

·      Culture

More them 80% of the crewmembers are between the age of 18 to 24. When living with 5,000 young adults your going to run in to trouble and lots of drama. Lets give you some back ground on their living situation. Each member only gets the space the size of closet to live in for months at a time. Also like NYC the ship never sleeps so this means there is fighter jets getting launched around the clock 24/7. So lack of sleep and personal space for over 5,000 young adults now we can talk about what goes on. If there is one world that describes the Nimitz is one big High School. Every element of a high school happens with in the aircraft carrier. First lets talk about one of there golden rule, NO DATING. When there is thousands of crew members, dating is going to happen but if caught you will get in trouble. When word gets out that your are dating someone it will travel fast and within day the whole ship will know your dating.
Another element of high school within the Nimitz is how clicks form and how it is very segregated among different races. If you work on the deck launching aircrafts or if you are a pilot or if your seamen 100% of your time you will be around the people you work with. If you don’t work with them your not friends with them. This is how the ship works. Also if you’re a minority most likely you will find your kind and become friends. In one example a white seamen worked along with a black seamen and you could just image what happened. The white seamen was charge of being a races and was on thin ice of getting kicked out of the navy due to other charges of races acts.
Life on bored the ships is rough for many of the crewmembers but it is 10 times hard for women on bored the ship. As many would say to be in the Navy is only meant for men. Well we are in the 21st century and on bored the U.S.S Nimitz there are a number of hard workingwomen. Even though they are good workers they are living among many men witch could be harsh for them at some points. To help them they have counseling and group meeting to help them deal with the problem they have. In one situation an office raped wile docked in Hong Kong one member. I could just image what she was feeling having everyone on the ship known what happened to her. Another example is on bored the ship there is only a few women pilots. When it some to men pilots there is a lot of testosterone floating around witch could be hard for women pilots. In the end if you’re a man or women having thousands of roomettes you’re going to run in to a few problems.

·      Conclusion
When I was done watching this 10-part, 10-hour documentary I learned a lot. I did not just learn about how an aircraft carrier works or how they launch a plane from the deck of the ship. What I really learned is what it is like to be part of the United States Navy and what is it like to spent 7 months on bored a aircraft carrier. When they enlisted in to the Navy they do so to defend their country. But when your one of 5,000 crew members your going to run in to many problem. Besides the drama it is just the physical work they do day to day for months. For sum this might be too much but what I learned is everyone of the 5,000 people on the ship all when at work is the heart of the ship. The ship has many planes and bombs but without the people who launch the planes or prepare the bombs the ships is just a ship. In the end is I respect people who Join the Navy now and I respect what they do to our country but I just want them to see this documentary to under stand what they are getting them self in to before they check the box where it says to work on a aircraft carrier.

Range of SS4 Missiles in Cuba

Geography

The time period after WWII was called the Cold War. The world was divided into two colors. Blue and Red. Blue was the color of democracy and red was the color of communist and everything the United States did not believe in.  The two major countries during the cold war were the Soviet Union (Russia) and the United States of America. According to a map these countries are worlds apart but during the cold war alliances were made making the U.S.S.R only 90 miles away from the U.S.A. it was all made possible by Cuba. Once a country where Americas vacation at now turn red and were considered a threat due to the pack it made with the Soviet Union. The point where the U2 Spy planes found SS4 missiles in Cuba it made it possible that a Russian nuclear missile can hit any major US city at any given time. This is when Geography was a major factor when it came to the Cuban Missile Crisis.

The Cold War was not just like any other war it was a schoolyard fight between two bullies. Those two bullies were the two super powers of the 20th century. The Soviet Union after WWII was afraid of the U.S.A on how strong they were with having Nuclear weapons on their side. At this point the Russian started to bulk up in strength and start to produce nuclear weapons. Lets back track for a second and talk about nuclear weapons. If one SS4 missile from Cuba is launch and is targeted at any major city in the U.S it has the destruction power to wipe out the entire city in seconds. This equals to millions of people killed by one SS4. At the same time we would launch a missile at Russia having the same damage if not more. As a leader of the country JFK or Khrushchev is the one to give the order to attack and if so he would be responsible of the death of millions of people. During the Missile crisis both leaders would rely on the other leader to not make the first move if so it would end in a nuclear war.

Economics
As the two biggest super powers of the world money meant nothing to them. Both countries during the Cold War both build up their defense system to be the biggest and the best. After making a dozen nuclear weapons thinking they were unstoppable they did not consider the consequences if the weapon is used in action. If one would destroy a city like New York City, our economy would be destroyed and life after would not be the same.

During the missile crisis both economies were at risk, if we entered in to a nuclear war. When JFK made his speech to the nation on October 22, the American people were change ever since. The next day super markets were sold out of food people was considering the possibility of a nuclear war. Bomb shelters were being created people took this not as a warning but a possible situation that could happen at any moment.

Politics

The Cold War defined my many people as a political war. The Korean War and the Vietnam War were fought during the Cold War. Both wars were fought not face to face but the United States fought them to stop the spread of communism and mainly to stop the Soviet Union of gaining power.
Within the 13 days of the Cuban Missile Crisis it was a mini war fought by three powerful political leaders. John F Kennedy of the United States, Nikita Khrushchev of the Soviet Union and Fidel Castro of Cuba. Within the 13 day it was a game of Texas hold ‘em between each leaders. When it came to the Soviet Union and the U.S.A cards they were all in from the start and ready to go to war at any moment. When JFK took office he was the youngest president elected. Many countries did not think he could keep up with the big boys like Russia and Cuba. When it came to the Cuban Missile Crisis JFK showed to the world that he was not a kid and had balls when it came to making the executive decision.

It all starts when JFK found out that there were SS4 missiles in Cuba. When he found that out he was thinking why would Khrushchev do that and what is his reason for it. Could it be he is ready to attack us? Is he preparing for the future? All of these options were running through his mind when he found out the news. When he meets with his chief of staff on this crisis the intense 13 days starts. As his chiefs of staff are pushing for a strike plain he refuses and waits. As in war waiting could be a dangerous decision due to they can be attacked.  They were in the 20th century and JFK used that to his advantage and after keeping the missile crisis a secret to the world until October 22 when he addresses the nation on the situation in Cuba and how he orders a blockade of Cuba. He does this not for the people of the nation but to show Khrushchev that he is not scared and he is ready to play his game. Also to show that they are not scared he orders his B-52 bombers to circle around Russia ready at any moment to drop bombs.
Nikita Khrushchev is the leader of the Soviet Union. During the Cold war his goal was to build up the USSR and to become the most powerful country. In the 60’s he made a deal with Fidel Castro allowing him to have Soviet troops and Cuba along with nuclear missile. He agrees and under American surveillance the Soviets were able to send over 40,000 troops and a number of SS4 missile.
Fidel Castro did not know what he was getting him self in to. With him agreeing to take sides with Soviet Union Cuba became a major game player with the missile crisis. When they found out that they had the weapons JFKs chiefs of staff wanted to take immediate action. McNamara was pushing JKF to order a strike. Kenndy ask LeMayon what we can do with Cuba he reply’s“ We will fry them”. Cuba was now the main focus and could be in danger if an attack happened.
When the Blockade was order, Khrushchev did not think that was true and he still had his ships and Submarines heading towards Cuba they were given nuclear torpedoes and the Submarines commanders were given full order to use it if needed. During the blockade Soviet ships had a number of opportunity but before they did the were order back to Russia.
The Ball was now in Khrushchev court. On October 23 Khrushchev after the close encounter in the pacific he sends a letting to Kennedy saying “there is serious threat to peace and security of peoples." In response to the letter on Oct 23 Kennedy sends a letter to Khrushchev laying the responsibility for the crisis on the Soviet Union. This in now a war between Kennedy and Khrushchev.  On Oct 26th Khrushchev sends another letter to Kennedy now telling him to removing his missiles from Turkey and if Kennedy would publicly announce never to invade Cuba.

October 27 also know as Black Saturday it all starts out by JFK meeting with his chiefs of staff arguing over how do we respond to his letter. As most of them are pushing for an attack, JFK is the only one thinking of his offer and putting it to consideration. As they are arguing they get a report on U-2 accidentally strays into Soviet airspace wile collecting data on the atmosphere near Alaska. Wile in Soviet airspace he is nearly being intercepted by Soviet MIG - 21 fighters. After a close encounter the tension is tense and each side is feared on who will make the first shot. Soviet forces on Cuba were order to fear for an American attack. An American U-2 making a flight over Cuba during this tense day they were given an order to shot down the plane. Major Rudolf Andersonis was shot down over Cuba. Khrushchev was nervous due to he had nothing to do with what happen and he did not give the order to shoot it down. JFK was being push and push to strike now but he was Commander and chief he stood down and waited. After Cuba is ready to be attack and the U.S.A military is ready to attack JFK stands down. As the night of Oct 27 falls  Kennedy writes Khrushchev a letter stating that he will make a statement that the U.S. will not invade Cuba and they will remove there missiles from Turkey if Khrushchev removes the missiles from Cuba.
News headlines across the nation showing the crisis was over
